My Experience...

This was our first time going to Cambodia and we were very keen to see the different lifestyle and culture there.

Day 1
The flight to Siem Reap was the most pleasant flight we've ever had as we were very well taken care of and treated like VIPs. We even had the opportunity to enter the cockpit and take photos with the crew. What more can we ask for?

After unpacking and lunch, we went for the Sunset Tour of Chong Khneas, a floating village in the Tonle Sap Lake. It was an eye opener to see how the locals live in floating houses. There were floating fish markets, basketball courts, churches and even a floating 'karaoke lounge'! We also visited a crocodile farm and the tour ended with dinner on the Tara Boat during sunset. After that we visited the Night Market and bought some souvenirs.

Day 2
We spent the morning visiting various temples like the Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple, Baphuon Temple, Elephants Terrace and Terrace of the Leper King. However the feature of the morning was the Ta Promh Temple where scenes of Tomb Raider the movie was filmed.

We then had a Khmer-style lunch and the food was very special. Khmer curry is not spicy at all, instead very sweet with a strong coconut milk flavor.

In the afternoon, we visited the Angkor Wat Temple which is the most famous temple in Siem Reap. There are many stories behind the temples and it was intriguing to learn how these stories, some real some mythical, shaped the history of Asia.

Dinner was a sumptuous buffet accompanied by many traditional dance performances. They have folk dances for almost everything in their lives from fishing, harvesting crops to the Apsara Dance which is about the mythical Apsaras in Camodian Folklore. After dinner, we indulged in a short Khmer traditional massage.

Day 3
After having a late breakfast, we went horse riding at The Happy Ranch. The ride took us through the rice fields, plantations and villages of Siem Reap, off and far from the tourist trails. We had a lot of fun riding at different speeds while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Cambodian countryside. The 90mins ride was over before we knew it. The flight back was smooth and relaxing. What a great way to end a memorable holiday!

Thank you Class 95 and SilkAir for the wonderful trip!
