We began our trip onboard the aeroplane, by SilkAir. We were tremendously excited. On board the aeroplane, we took pictures with the crew members (which they kindly agreed to). The food was great and served by friendly and caring stewardesses.
Hard Rock Hotel
As soon as we arrived at our destination, we headed to Hard Rock Cafe Hotel. Reception was awesome. Funky receptionists and we loved the welcome drink.
The room was very comfortable and definitely very inviting. The big shocker came when we went to the balcony as we are just steps from the beach! Best of all, the weather is great – Sunny Day (matches our mood).A breathtaking view indeed.
Bus adventure
We quickly changed into our Class 95 T-shirts to get on with our planned trip. We have to admit that we are definitely not an avid user of the public transport back in Singapore but here, we hopped onto a public bus!
This is definitely an experience which brings us down memory lane for it operates by a ticketing system. Passengers are to purchase tickets according to intended destination from the bus conductor.
Birth Place of P.Ramlee
P.Ramlee was a famous Malay actor, singer and director of many classical Malay movies. In fact, his works are still being watched and loved by many people today. Thus, being able to see and experience the humble beginnings of this ‘legendary man’ is definitely an eye opener.
Fort Cornwallis
This is a place where one can look at historical models of the soldiers who fought in the war. There is also a display of the machinery which was used at that time. This is a great place for people who love history and for those who love historical artefacts.
Street Food@ The Gurney Streets
Food is definitely aplenty. We easily located this place and the food is simply delicious. We decided on our choice of food and then headed back to the hotel.
That’s the end of Day 1. We had a long day but we definitely are looking forward to Day 2 of our trip to Penang.
Date: 12th March 2010
Breakfast
We started our second day with a scrumptious meal in the hotel cafe.
Tropical Spice Garden
At this location, we saw, touched and smelt many different types of herbs and spices which are locally grown. Many of these spices contribute to the wide variety and delicious local delicacies in Penang. A very interesting place indeed.
Garden Tour (Botanical Garden)
We wanted to take the tram ride around the garden and were told that it would cost RM2 per person if there were at least 5 people on the tram. After waiting for some time, nobody came to express their interest in taking the train, so we paid RM10 per person to get on it. Our ‘exclusively catered’ tram ride brought us around and we saw many tropical flowers and non-flowering plants. The main attraction was the cactus house where there was a wide variety of cacti.
The Chocolate Boutique
Owned by a Japanese business man, The Chocolate Boutique not only sold wonderful and heavenly chocolates, they also had a small area where one can learn about the history of chocolates.
Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion
We saw many interesting lifestyles of the Chinese here. The structure of the building is unique and there are many intriguing ancient designs which symbolised the Chinese.
Cheong Fatt Tze was a rich entrepreneur who built this mansion. We are not allowed to take any photographs of the inner layout of this mansion. It is also known as the ‘Blue House.’
Hard Rock Cafe
We loved the live band at the lobby of the hotel which we experienced at the end of our interesting trip. We will definitely recommend this to others.

Made our way back to Singapore and we would like to thank Class 95 and SilkAir for this unforgettable and wonderful experience. Great and Thank You!
