We flew by SilkAir from Singapore to Surabaya, and were pleasantly surprised when the check-in staff told us at the counter that we were upgraded to Business Class seats! Everything about the flight was perfect, the crew was extremely friendly and the captain even came out to welcome us onboard the flight.
Upon Arriving at Surabaya, we were greeted by our tour guide Yu Yun at the airport. We wasted no time, hopped onto the tour bus and headed straight for the submarine museum. It was an amazing experience, and the first in my life that I not only got to see a submarine, but enter it too. Inside, everything was well maintained even though it had retired from the seas in 1989. Next, we went to the House of Sampoerna – the biggest cigarette clove factory which is now also a museum. It was fun to watch the process of how hand-made cigarettes are made. The workers are even better than machines!
After leaving the house of sampoerna, we were actually supposed to be headed for the apple garden followed by the waterfall tour but unfortunately, it rained out and we had to cancel that. So we headed straight for Mount Bromo where we checked into Bromo Tosari Hotel.
On Day 2, the weather on Mount Bromo was so cold (they told us it was 5 degrees!) that I had to buy a jacket from the hotel shop. We woke up at 4am to watch the sunrise – the view up there was breathtaking and was really worth waking up early for. After breakfast, we left Mount Bromo (an active volcano!) and the scenery out was really beautiful.
On Day 3, it was a relaxing free and easy day, so we did most of the shopping then – buying crackers, clothes and even tried having a Javanese massage.
Thank you SilkAir for the wonderful getaway, we really enjoyed our trip.
Thank you Class 95 and Happy 20th Birthday!
