My Experience...

Day 1 - 27 June 2010, Sunday
Silk Air MI 936, Singapore to Chengdu
Rainy day, 22°C
The SilkAir Airbus 320 was very comfortable and the in-flight service was good. Though was some turbulence, flight was mostly smooth sailing and I managed to catch some sleep. Our local tour guide Mr. Wang, met us at the airport when we arrived and took us to JunYue LiJing Hotel, which was about a 30mins car ride. The hotel is conveniently located about 10mins walk away from the shopping belt of
CunXi Road, which is our Orchard road equivalent.

We had dinner at Cunxi, in a restaurant called Long Chao Sho. We ordered a set meal of 12 different Sichuan snacks, so that could sample more of their local snacks. There are cold noodles, hot noodles, soup, steam/fried dumplings… and the list goes on.
After dinner, though we wanted to see more of CunXi, we headed back to the hotel as it was raining heavily.

Day 2 - 28 June 2010, Monday
By road: Chengdu to Emei Shan
Rainy & foggy day, 25°C
We set off for Emei Shan by car at around 9am. Apart from resting point, we spent
most of the morning in the car, as we had to cover over 168 km to get to our destination. At about 2pm, we stopped for lunch half way up the mountain, at a restaurant called Tian Xiu Restaurant. It served some very local dishes like Dong Po Rou, Green Capsicum with pork fried in Sichuan style and Eggs and tomatoes soup. Lunch was very satisfying as we hadn’t had anything to eat for the past six hours.

From there on, we had to go the rest of the way up the mountain by foot to the
cable car station. At this time a fog had built up, visibility was poor, it was still
raining, and the temperature had dropped to about 17°C as we came towards the summit of Emei Shan. We finally reached the summit at around 3.30pm. Unfortunately, the visibility was like less than 50m. At 3099ft above sea
level, the whole summit was covered in clouds. It was a unique feeling, having clouds envelop you. We were walking through and amongst clouds! You could feel water droplets on your skin, on your jacket and you could even see the water droplets on everyone’s hair.

Dinner was Chicken feet with dried chili, Pork belly satay, Duck tongue satay, BBQ Egg Plant-Sichuan Mah la Style. Then we checked in to Hong Zhu Shan Hotel for the night.

Day 3 - 29 June 2010, Tuesday
By road: Emei Shan back to Chengdu
Emei: Cloudy & clear, 25°C
Chengdu: Cloudy & foggy day, 25°C
I went for a morning jog around the Hong Zhu Shan Lake (a man-made lake), while my uncle was still slept in. We then had breakfast together before we headed out.

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Pandas Breeding is located at the North of
Chengdu. The scenic 100-hectare sanctuary of Panda world, was carefully
planned so that the pandas can live in their natural habitats. The young pandas (1 to 2 years old) were most playful, and observing them somehow put us in a jovial
mood.
Lunch was at a small eating house which served home cook food like Mah Po Tofu,
Seaweed soup, Kon Pow Chee Ting - Sichuan Style, Dong Po Rou.
For dinner, Mr. Wang brought us to a Sichuan Mah La Steamboat eating place just beside the JinJiang Theatre  - Culture Show venue and we managed to catch the show after eating. It was a wonderful show with some ancient and very unique Sichuan cultural acts, performed by various big names from Sichuan - Master of ErHu, Master Puppeteer, and the very famous and very well received, Changing Faces.

Day 4 - 30 June 2010, Wednesday
Silk Air MI 933, Chengdu to Singapore
Cloudy, 25°C
We slept in later today as it was the only morning, that we were not meeting Mr. Wang. My uncle and I decided to hit to the gym for a workout before having a later than usual breakfast. We did some shopping at CunXi Road, and then packed our bags to get ready for our flight back home to Singapore on SilkAir MI 933 that afternoon.
Looking back, I do not remember ever travelling or even going out for an outing with my uncle. I would like to thank Class 95 and SilkAir for this wonderful experience, giving this opportunity for people to get together, for us to experience various places and various cultures and most of all rediscovering ourselves and getting to know our partners, relatives or friends a little better by travelling together.

Happy 20th Birthday to Class 95 & May you have many more happy returns.
And congratulations to SilkAir for the great success in the “20 destinations in 20
weeks” promotion!
Indeed, Class 95 & SilkAir have brought much joy and smiles to many.
